The Masons were originally a family of farmers, having a smallholding where West Bromwich Albion football ground is now, the land was part of Lord Bradford’s estate at the time. One of the son’s married a butcher’s daughter, setting up a shop in Blymhill before moving to Newport High Street in about 1896.
