Summer House Inn which stood on the north bank of the canal. Mr and Mrs William and Eliza Harper used to keep the premises until just before the 1914-18 War. To the left is a friend of the Harpers, Mr Bebb, who used to keep a cobbler’s business in St Mary Street; Annie Harper with her dog Queenie; Ada Harper; Mrs Eliza Harper (nee Lovatt) and, to the right, Nellie Harper. Annie Harper married Ernest Richard Price and they lived at 58 Upper Bar; Ada married Charles Bridgward and lived at the White House which was on the corner of Stafford Road; Nellie married Edward Mitchell and lived in Wellington. Summer House Grove, which commemorates this inn, is on the south bank of the canal . (Now the inn is now a farm.)
